Au Pair Exchange Visitor Program

Pilot Extensions

Process for requesting and receiving a pilot extension:
1. The sponsor files a request in SEVIS for an Extension Beyond the Maximum. Sponsors submit requests for a program extension for their au pair participants in SEVIS using the Real Time Interactive (RTI) mode. This process cannot be done in batch mode. For sponsors normally working in batch mode: the information on individual au pairs relating to their extensions does not go into your database.

2. The sponsor mails the required fee of $198.00 per extension request to the Department with a cover letter stating the au pair’s name and SEVIS ID number.

3. On receipt of the fee and the name of the au pair, a Program Designation Officer will access SEVIS and make a recommendation for an approval of the requested extension.

4. An Office Manager will access SEVIS to approve the recommendation. When the extension is granted, an e-mail notice is automatically sent within SEVIS to the RO or ARO who filed the request in SEVIS.

5. The RO or ARO must then print a new Form DS-2019 with the new end date, sign it (in blue ink), and give it to the au pair.
